Katherine Sable’s work embraces a visual language that is both studied and imperfect, and grounded in the process of painting. The work is informed by formal contradictions and the history of the decorative pattern, specifically textile and wallpaper design.  Sable grew up in rural Southwestern Virginia and moved to Washington, DC in 2007 where she received her MFA in 2009 from American University. She holds a BFA from Virginia Tech, with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Art History and is the recipient of two Mellon Research Grants.   She lives and works in the Washington, D.C. area and is co-owner of Etch Design Lab, a collaborative creative studio.
